NHL Playoffs OT Heroics, Nail-Biters & More

The Stanley Cup Playoffs delivered an electrifying night on April 21, highlighted by Alexander Ovechkin's first career playoff overtime goal and thrilling finishes across the board.​


Recapping Tonight’s NHL Playoff Games – April 21, 2025


Washington Capitals 3, Montreal Canadiens 2 (OT)

Alexander Ovechkin scored twice, including his first career playoff overtime goal, to lead the Capitals to a 3–2 victory over the Canadiens. Despite surrendering a 2–0 lead in the third period, Washington secured the win just 2:26 into overtime. The Capitals are now up 1-0 in the series.


Los Angeles Kings 6, Edmonton Oilers 5

The Kings built a 4–0 lead but had to fend off a furious Oilers comeback. Edmonton was able to put in 4 goals in the 3rd alone including 2 in the final three minutes. Then Phillip Danault netted the game-winner with 41.1 seconds remaining, sealing a 6–5 win for Los Angeles giving them a 1-0 series lead.


Dallas Stars 4, Colorado Avalanche 3 (OT)

Colin Blackwell, returning to the lineup after being a healthy scratch in Game 1 proved to be key for the Stars. It may have taken most of overtime but he netted the overtime winner at 17:46, helping the Stars even the series at 1–1. ​


Winnipeg Jets 2, St. Louis Blues 1

Kyle Connor's third-period goal lifted the Jets to a 2–1 victory and a 2–0 series lead over the Blues. Connor Hellebuyck made 21 saves to preserve the win.
